Stay Ready vs Fitbod

Both apps decide what you lift. Fitbod reads your logs. Stay Ready reads your logs and your day.

Checked October 13, 2026 against the store listings and each app's own pages. US prices.

Fitbod is the app most people mean when they say a workout generator. It tracks how recovered each muscle is from what you logged, picks exercises for your equipment and goal, and hands you a finished session. It has done that well for years, and it is the closest thing to Stay Ready on the store.

The difference is what each one knows about today. Fitbod's recovery comes from your workouts. Stay Ready's comes from your workouts plus the morning check-in, last night's sleep, a joint you flagged and what you ate, and it tells you why each set is what it is.

Side by side

What each one does

  • Price

    Stay Ready

    $9.99 a month, $59.99 a year or $219.99 once. First month free.

    Fitbod

$15.99 a month or $95.99 a year. 7-day trial, then no free plan.

  • Builds the session from

    Stay Ready

Your history, today's check-in, per-muscle recovery, nervous-system fatigue, a joint check and the equipment where you are.

    Fitbod

Your logged workouts and linked activity (a per-muscle recovery map), your goal and your equipment.

  • Sleep and how you feel

    Stay Ready

Yes. A morning check-in (energy, sleep, soreness) and last night's sleep from Apple Health or Health Connect change today's loads and sets.

    Fitbod

No. Recovery is read from workouts, not from sleep or a check-in.

  • A sore joint

    Stay Ready

A joint check before the session: green, yellow or red, with the type of pain. Loads come down on the movements that use that joint and substitutes are offered.

    Fitbod

No pain input. You swap or exclude exercises yourself.

  • Shows its reasoning

    Stay Ready

Why this? under every exercise, in plain words. Change the set and it re-plans.

    Fitbod

A recovery map per muscle. No per-set explanation.

  • Nutrition

    Stay Ready

Food logging, adaptive calorie and macro targets and calorie cycling in the same account. Targets follow the training plan.

    Fitbod

    None.

  • Exercise library

    Stay Ready

320+ exercises. No demo videos yet.

    Fitbod

1,600+ exercises, each with a demo video.

  • Strength score

    Stay Ready

HP: nine movement patterns scored against your size and sex, 0 to 1000, fading slowly when you stop.

    Fitbod

    Estimated one-rep maxes per exercise.

  • Platforms

    Stay Ready

iPhone, Apple Watch, Android, Wear OS.

    Fitbod

    iPhone, Apple Watch, Android.

Their side

Where Fitbod is better

  • 01A library five times the size of ours, with a demo video on every exercise.
  • 02Years on the store, a large user base and a polished app. The recovery map is easy to read at a glance.
  • 03If you want a finished workout handed to you with no questions asked, it does that very well.

Our side

Where Stay Ready is better

  • 01It reads today, not only your logs: sleep, energy, a sore joint and nervous-system fatigue reshape the session before you start it.
  • 02It explains every prescription and lets you change it. Advice, not a lock.
  • 03Food and training in one account, so a rest day is fed as a rest day and a cut raises your protein.
  • 04The joint check, with substitutes and a two-week easing on the movements that load the joint you flagged.
  • 05$36 a year less, and the first month is free.

Which one

Pick Fitbod if

  • 01You want the biggest library and a video for every movement.
  • 02You want a workout generated and don't need to know why.
  • 03You already track food somewhere else and like it there.

Pick Stay Ready if

  • 01Your weeks don't go to plan: short nights, a sore knee, time away.
  • 02You want to know why a set is what it is, and to be able to change it.
  • 03You would rather run food and training in one place than pay for two apps.

Moving over

What comes with you

Stay Ready doesn't read Fitbod's data yet. Each lift sets its anchor from the first sets you log, and by the third session of a lift the prescriptions run on your own numbers. The lift calculator on this site shows how a logged set turns into a prescription.

Weigh-ins come in from Apple Health on iPhone and from Health Connect on Android, history included, so the weight trend doesn't start from zero.

Price

What each one costs

Fitbod is $95.99 a year. Stay Ready is $59.99 a year, or $9.99 a month, or $219.99 once, and the first month is free.

The fairer comparison is the stack. Fitbod for training plus MacroFactor for food is $168 a year, in two apps that don't talk to each other. Stay Ready does both for $59.99.
